Stone Grip Instructions
SlipDoctors Stone Grip creates microscopic tread patterns to improve slip resistance on wet and dry surfaces. Stone Grip can be used on most unsealed porcelain or ceramic tiles, concrete or most natural stone surface. Do not use on any synthetic surfaces such as Vinyl, VCT or Fibreglass. Prior to application, contact SlipDoctors if you wish to treat polished, sealed, marble or granite. Stone Grip may reduce the shine on some tile types.
Preparation
A. Prepare the Neutralizer. Fill a bucket or small sprayer with clean tap water. Add one tablespoon of baking soda per three litres of water and mix well. Set aside to use when needed.
B. Surface Preparation. Prior to treatment, thoroughly clean the surface to be treated using a pH-neutral or slightly acidic cleaner. On new floors makes sure all grout residues are removed from the tiles. The floor may need to be rinsed multiple times to remove all former cleaning products. NOTE: If there is a topcoat sealer or wax on the floor it should be removed before treatment is started. Stone Grip is compatible with most penetrating sealers.
PERFORM TEST: *IMPORTANT* A. Sample Testing: Before initial treatment, test on one tile in an inconspicuous area of the floor. Thoroughly clean and dry the small test area. Spread a small amount of Stone Grip completely over the test area and note the time when starting.
Every 30 seconds use a rubber-soled shoe to apply downward pressure and try slide the shoe along the treatment area. DO NOT LET STONE GRIP DRY ON THE SURFACE. When needed, re-wet the area with the Stone Grip solution. When you feel you have achieved the level of slip resistance you desire, rinse the entire area with the neutralizer. Make note of the total amount of time you left the solution on the tile.
Typically, this time will be between 5 to 15 minutes. Please Note: This is not a case where longer treatment time is better. It is important not to over-treat the surface. As soon as there is a reasonable slip resistance you must apply the neutralizer immediately.
B. Review Test Results: Once you have achieved an acceptable level of slip resistance and applied the neutralizer, thoroughly rinse with clean water and dry the test area. Inspect the area once dry and determine if there are any visible changes in appearance.
STORAGE & DISPOSAL: Store material in its original container. Store in a cool and dry place with adequate ventilation. Avoid freezing. Dispose of the material in accordance with your local regulations. Shelf Life: 5 years in an adequate storage facility.
Full Application
A. Apply Stone Grip to the remaining floor area. Spread the solution using a tank sprayer or bucket on an area ONLY as large as can be covered and subsequently neutralized consistent with the treatment time determined by the testing process. Do not let Stone Grip dry on the surface. DO NOT POUR STONE GRIP DIRECTLY FROM THE BOTTLE ONTO THE SURFACE. It may be necessary to divide larger areas into smaller sections for effective application. After the section has been treated for the time determined in the testing process, apply the neutralizer. Make sure to use a different spray bottle or applicator for the neutralization process. Thoroughly rinse the entire treated area with clean water and dry with a wet vacuum or squeegee.
